Francy Hernandez
- Lead Vocals
Francy Hernandez was born in Caracas, Venezuela –but like a gypsy, she moved around every other year. She went from Caracas to Queens, Queens to Caracas, Valencia to Maracay and from Punto Fijo to Caracas. She finally made her way to San Francisco in the early 80's and now has made her home in the Sacramento area.
Her Dad’s roots and love for Venezuelan Folklore embraced her at a very young age and set her heart right where it needed to be. She learned how to play the cuatro at the age of eight, and learned how to play maracas, charrasca and Culo e’ Puya (Afro-Venezuelan Drums) in her late teens.
While living in the Bay Area, she was ‘discovered’ by her very dear friend and soul sister Jackeline Rago during a 5th of July Venezuelan Independence day celebration in San Francisco. Since then, she has had the opportunity to display her love for Venezuelan music and share the culture that runs so very deep in her soul.
Francy's main instrument is her voice, and her energy, passion and love for this music comes through to the audience in her performances.
During her musical career, she has performed in numerous venues including the Ethnic Dance Festival, World Drum Music Festival, Yerba Buena Gardens, California World Music Fest and La Peña Cultural Center among many others.
Additionally, Francy is the mother of two beautiful children, who keep her very busy during the week as she drives them to soccer, ballet, swimming and karate lessons and also volunteers at their school as a Spanish teacher. All the while, she maintains a job as a "Software Developer" at a Telecomunications company in the Sacramento area.
She should be named "Wonder Woman"... or better yet, "Miss Venezuela"!
