Edgar Lavado
- Bass, Vocals
Edgar was born in Caracas, Venezuela. He attributes his first musical encounters to his Dad, who taught him at a very early age how to play the guitar and accompany him to the sounds of the popular children’s music repertoire from Venezuela. During his school years, he was always involved in musical workshops and events given by the public school system.
At the age of 17, he decided to formally join the conservatory of music and take on extensive guitar lessons at the Fundacion Bigott in Caracas, under maestro Carmelo Rodriguez. It was during that time that he became a member of the group “Multifonia” with whom he traveled nationally and internationally as a guitar player.
At the age of 21, Edgar decided to explore other horizons, and moved to Austria, where he participated in the Latin American music scene. While in Austria, he started taking private bass lessons and pursuing extensive studies in Afro Caribbean rhythms and percussion instruments characteristic to the Afro Cuban style of music.
In 1992, he returned to Venezuela making his home base in the city of Merida where he finalized his college degree. His passion for the Venezuelan folklore, propelled him to continue his studies in music and join several local bands and ensembles both as a percussionist and as a bass player.
A few years later, Edgar decided to move to Berlin, Germany, where he joined several bands in the area. While in Europe, he had the opportunity to participate in the “Festival de la Musica Latina” in La Rochelle, France, among many others.
In 2002, Edgar set home base in the Bay Area and since then he has maintained an active lifestyle as a multi-instrumentalist (bass, percussion and voice). Among the bands he belongs to are The Venezuelan Music Project (VMP), La Moderna Tradicion, Orquesta Candela, Tito y su Son de Cuba, Quinteto Latido, Grupo Saoco, Rennea y sus Amigos and Son Boricua.
